Women in their large numbers under the auspices of the Adamawa state chapter of women in politics have staged a peace walk protest following the nullification of All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries that produced Sen. Aisha Ahmed Dahiru Binani as the candidate of the party for 2023 general elections by the Federal High Court last Friday sitting in Yola.
The women carrying placards with various inscriptions such as “No Woman, No Nation, it’s her mandate give it back to her” and chanting “sai Binani” expressed concern over the Court verdict, saying it was targeted at stopping women folk from holding leadership positions.
The peace walk which was organized by the Adamawa state chapter of women in politics addressed journalists to express their dismay and vehemently kicked against the marginalization of women in the political space, especially by political parties who tend to deliberately put obstacles on the path of the female gender during the primary election that saw Binani a winner.
Comfort Ezra, State Coordinator of the group while addressing Journalists after the rally noted that the court decision is a deliberate effort by the male counterparts to stop women from becoming leaders.
