The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy says it plans to increase digital skills training, establish ICT Centres and execute projects all over the country.
The Minister, Dr Isa Pantami, disclosed this when he featured on FORUM, a special interview Programme of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
He noted that there had been an upsurge in the contributions of ICT and digital services sector to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He said ICT contributions to the GDP of the nation surpassed the combined contributions of the remaining six sectors.
The minister said that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the inauguration of the team, led by him (Pantami), to develop the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy and redesigned the ministry to accommodate digital economy.
He said the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) had also been given the task to execute the strategy for implementing the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy 2020-2025.
According to him, NITDA has also come up with strategies to safeguard and simplify the implementation of the policy within its mandate.
