Borno state Governor Professor Babagana Zulum says three major internally displaced persons camps within Maiduguri metropolis would be closed down by the end of this month.
Professor Zulum made this known while interacting with newsmen upon his return to Maiduguri after spending 21 days’ vacation.
According to the Governor, the camps that will be closed during the first phase are MOGOLIS IDP camp, NYSC and Gidan-Taki housing unit along Gamboru Ngala road.
He explained that all IDPs taking refuge in the camps would be resettled in different location as part of the state government efforts to shut down all IDP camps in Maiduguri in the coming months.
Although the time is getting closer, but be rest assured that at least before the 31st of May, the government do everything possible to ensure closure of 3 to 4 IDP camps while others will be closed in due course.
He said due to what has happened in Damasak, Dikwa, Marte, Ajiri among others and live is very important, that is why the they have some hitches in their plan to close the camps immediately.
On restoration of power supply to Maiduguri and other neighbouring local governments which have been plunged into darkness for almost four months due to attack by the insurgents, Governor Babagana Zulum said efforts are on to restore electricity to the affected areas in the shortest possible time.
He noted that deliberate measures have also been taken to safeguard the electric towers and other infrastructure from been vandalise.
Zulum said they’re working towards installing thermal energy potential in the state Insha Allah.
Assuring that the establishment of thermal energy power station in Maiduguri in the next six months.
The Governor promised to redouble effort towards restoring lasting peace in the state.
