With less than 10 days, to 31st January, 2023 set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes would cease to be a legal tender, traders in the Jimeta main market popularly called ‘Kasuwar jan block’ in Adamawa state capital have resolve to stop transactions with the affected naira notes as from Wednesday 25th, January 2023.
The traders made their stand known during sensitization of the redesigned currencies by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in the market, noting that there is inadequate circulation of the new naira notes.
According to them, the move was to forestall any loss they might incurred as a result for their inability to deposits all old naira notes in their possessions in commercial banks before the deadline.
The traders therefore called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend their sensitization to rural areas for the benefits of the general populace.
