There was wild jubilation by some residents of Maiduguri town following the restoration of electricity on Wednesday evening after two months of total blackout.
DANDAL Kura Radio International reports that the two months blackout was caused by the destruction of some of the towers supplying electricity to the city from the national grid by insurgents along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road.
Some of the residents who spoke to DANDAL Kura Radio lauded the commitment shown by staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC and Borno Government and other stake holders in restoring the power.
Baba Mai Bukar Ndufu says the workers deserve commendation, particularly the staff of Transmission Company of Nigeria and soldiers, members of Civilian joint task force and groups of hunters providing them security during the work. Adding that they even encountered bomb attack while working to restore light.
Zara Machina commended Governor, Babagana Zulum, for his effective contributions to ensure that residents get electricity as month of Ramadan is on day in less than a three weeks time.
Alai kusa Kankarama in Custom area expressed happiness over the development and prayed it never happened again.
Adding that people have really suffered without light in view of the hot weather, and have been disturbed on how they are going to face the coming Ramadan period in hot season without light.
