About 30 soldiers were reportedly killed by an armed group suspected to be rebels in Tillaberi, southeast Niger, on wednesday.

Tillaberi is among the country’s regions experiencing incessant attacks that target civilians and military forces.

About 137 people were killed in coordinated raids on villages in the region in one of the deadliest attacks in March.

Few days later, 11 people were reportedly killed in two villages of the Tillaberi region by the militants.

Local media in the country reported that the soldiers lost their lives after engagement with the militants who attacked them on motorcycles.

In a letter sent to their senior commanders, the overpowered soldiers said militants burnt the victims’ corpses.

BBC Hausa reported that 16 of the 30 corpses were however recovered with the help of residents.

The new administration of President Mohamed Bazoum has started with rebellions and armed attacks in the Diffa, Tillaberi and Tahoua regions.
