The People’s Republic of China has pledged to work with Nigeria to fight and win the war against modern day slavery.

Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria Mr. Li Xuda, made the commitment on Monday in Abuja at the commemoration of the 2021 International Day for the Remembrance of Slave Trade and its Abolition.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the theme for this year’s commemoration is: “Modern Day Slavery, A National Question: Protecting the Future Generation”.

Li said that Modern Day Slavery had taken the show of other forms of violence against International laws; like human trafficking, forced labour and adult and child slavery, among others.

He noted that statistics showed a high prevalence rate of such practices in Nigeria, with a lot of Nigerians falling victim of the menace.

According to him, the commitment of China is to help Nigeria and other UNESCO countries to win the fight against Modern Day Slavery.
