Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has decried the act of some state governors for reopening churches and mosques.
It could be recalled that Mosques and churches in many parts of the country had been closed as part of measures to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Last week, some state governors had reportedly directed that worship centres be reopened and the NSCIA on Sunday described the directive as ridiculous and uncalled for.
NSCIA Director of Administration, Yusuf Chinedozie Nwoha, who spoke when he led a team of the council to donate relief materials to some residents at Mpape community of Abuja, said the move is ridiculous as many are taking COVID-19 that has no cure yet as a child’s play.
He noted that this is a disease that has ravaged advanced nations with high-quality healthcare services, hence the need for Nigerians to take cautions.
