Troops of the 233 battalion of the Nigerian army at the weekend killed many boko haram terrorists in a fierce gun battle while repelling an attack on a military patrol team at Sasawa community in Yobe state. Sasawa is a farming and a herding settlement located 68km north of Damaturu.
The repulsion was contained in a statement by director, army public relation, Brig-Gen. Texas chukwu. According to him, the troops, during the two hour gun duel, neutralised scores of insurgents to protect the community. He said the insurgence were planning to attack the Babangida market within the locality to steal food items fuel and lay ambush for the troops on patrol.
The military spokesman however noted that the troops had casualty but the situation was under control explaining that additional troops had been deployed to the area to enforce security.
The air task force is on aerial surveillance to track down the fleeing terrorists.
