Nigerian Army Dismisses Allegations Against Their Operation in Taraba

The probe panel set up by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.General Tukur Buratai, to investigate allegations made against the Nigerian Army in the course of operations in Taraba State, has dismissed the allegations.

This was even as the panel said some troops went outside their mandate to carry out illegal activities in the state. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.General Tukur Buratai, who disclosed the content of the panel’s report submitted two weeks ago to him, at a press conference, Friday, in Abuja, said the former Minister of Defence, Lt General TY Danjuma,failed to appear before the panel in the course of its investigation even when he was invited for appearance.

The Army Chief, who was represented by the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Army Headquarters, Major General Nuhu Angbazo said with respect to the statement by Lt Gen TY Danjuma, it is clear that the allegations were not true, hence there is a need to urge for caution on the part of the elder stateman, in view of the security implications of such comments.
