Nigeria: Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission Postpones Council Election To December

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission on Friday stated that 16 political parties had indicated their willingness to participate in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections in the state scheduled to take place on December 5th 2020.

YOSIEC Chairman, Dr. Mamman Muhammad who disclosed this at a press conference in Damaturu, listed the political parties that were interested to contest in the elections to include APGA, SDP, APP, ZLP, LP, APC, APM, ACCORD, YPP, NNPP and PRP.

According to him, the election was earlier scheduled for September 2020 but now postponed to December 2020 due to some unforeseen circumstances.

After series of representations from the election stakeholders, and taking into consideration the elaborate plans needed to comply with COVID-19 protocols, the commission is compelled to review the schedule.

Mamman stated that revised schedule dated September 4th, is hereby released. This new schedule overrides and replaces the September 1sttime table.

He however appealed to the stakeholders and other relevant authorities to take cognisance of the changes on the new date while assuring that YOSIEC will be kept them upgrade on all developments.
