Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has flagged off distribution of tractors and fertilizers to 337, 460 small and large scale farmers.
The distribution which is under the auspices of Agricultural Youth Empowerment Programme is to be sold at subsidized rates to farmers across the state.
While launching the sale in Damaturu, Buni disclosed that the fertilizer and tractors distribution committee has been set up noting that this could prevent the massive diversion of farm inputs by fertilizer merchants.
According to him, the State Government; has procured 7,500 metric tons of fertilizers and 103 tractors for sale and distribution.
He said that fertilizers and tractors are to be sold at subsidized rates to 337,460 registered farmers captured under Geo-Enabling Initiatives for Monitoring and Supervision.
While speaking Commissioner of Agriculture,Dr. Mairo Amshi said that the coupling of tractors with a harrow ,plough, ridger and trailer was to ease labour for land preparation before planting.
According to her, all payments for fertilizer should be made in bank drafts payable to Yobe State Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme.
