Chairperson of Ummirashida Foundation has said that it is targeting to empower 3,000 Almajiri through entrepreneurial skills development in Jere, Mafa and Maiduguri Metropolitan Council in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement by the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation Hajiya Aisha Adamu during the flag off ceremony held at NLC House in Maiduguri on Thursday.
The gathering was graced the attendance of different stakeholders including the leaders of the Sangaya Association, Media, NGOs , Civil Society Organizations, Government Agencies among others.
The empowerment program will include teaching skills, soap and shoe making, liquid and detergent processing, tailoring among others.
Aisha Adamu said since the establishment of the foundation in January, the foundation has been able to support 4,730 Almajiri and less privileged children with materials which includes soap and detergent, sweaters, and shoes in the last six months.
One of the Sangaya leaders, Sheikh Goni Yusuf who attended the flagging off ceremony expressed appreciation to the founder and leadership of the organization for involving them into such a very important initiative for the young prospective almajiri in the state.
The founder, Hajiya Aisha Adamu thanked all the representatives of agencies, organizations and bodies and equally call on the government, local and international NGOs and the well-to-do individuals to support the initiative as it will improve the lives of the almajiri.
