An NGO, Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) has called for increased sensitisation of all stakeholders to the rights of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), ahead of the 2023 elections, to ensure inclusive participation.

The organisation made the call on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by some members of the board and management of IFA to the Headquarters of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

The Executive Director, IFA, Grace Jerry, stressed the need to include the over 30 million Nigerian PWDs in all electoral processes to protect and guarantee their socio-economic and political rights in the country.

According to her, IFA has engaged the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) to improve provision of materials to address some of the challenges faced by PWDs during election.

Jerry called on the media, particularly NAN, to continue to interface more with organisations of PWDs to promote participation of all vulnerable groups in nationwide societal development.

NAN Editor-in-Chief, Mr Silas Nwoha who received the delegtion, assured the organisation of the agency’s commitment to promote and protect the rights of all citizens, including PWDs.

Also, the Head of Health and Gender Desk, Hajiya Hadiza Aliyu commended the organisation for its achievements in addressing the challenges faced by PWDs.
