Nigeria: Sultan Directs Muslims To Look For New Moon Of Ramadan

The Sultan of Sokoto, Northwest Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III who is the chairman of Nigerian supreme council of Islamic affairs requested Muslims to start looking for the new moon of Ramadan 1440A.H on Sunday.

According to him, Sunday, May 5, 2019, which is equivalent to 29 day of Sha’aban, 1440A.H shall be the day to look for the new moon of Ramadan 1440A.H.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto Professor Sambo Junaidu. He said they should report the sighting of the moon to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.

The Deputy Secretary-General of the council, Professor Salisu Shehu, gave the advice on Saturday in a statement.

According to him, subsequent upon the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee NMSC, the President-General enjoins the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1440 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday.
