Police in Adamawa State have commenced investigation to fish out those behind the looting of government warehouse located at Kwanan Waya on the outskirt of Yola, state capital where relief items supplied as palliatives for COVID-19 pandemic were kept.
Hundreds of People on Sunday stormed the warehouse and carted away with the items to include cartons of noodles, spaghetti, salt and cooking oil.
Police Public Relations Officer Adamawa State Police Command DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said the looters overpowered the police drafted to prevent the miscreants from gaining entry following intelligent reports that, some people have plan to loot the government warehouse and some shops in the town.
Nguroje stated the Commissioner of Police has ordered full investigation into the matter to unravel the perpetrators with a view to prosecute them so as to serve as deterrent to others.
Nguroje dismissed claim that policemen and other security personnel on ground became onlookers while the looters have a field day.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency Dr Sulaiman Muhammad has lamented over the incident, saying the looters should have waited for government to distribute the items.
