Nigeria: Police Arrests Humanitarian Worker After Raping 10-Year-Old In Maiduguri

A Humanitarian worker with the non-governmental organization of Street Child Nigeria is alleged to have raped a 10 years old in Maiduguri.

The accused person has been arrested by the police in connection to the allegation.

It was learnt that, the suspect by name Bala Sunday Halidu who works with Street Child Nigeria as Livelihood Officer in Borno State was arrested by men of GRA Divisional Police Station at his residence in Mashirimami area of Maiduguri on Wednesday night.

The mother of the victim who confirmed the incident said the accused person was her neighbor.

She explained that he offered to take them home on that fateful day and her daughter helped him take a cartoon of water and soft drinks he bought to his apartment but unfortunately he forcefully raped her.

She pointed out that she reported the case to the Police and he was subsequently arrested on Wednesday night by operatives of GRA Divisional Police Station in Maiduguri.

When contacted, the Child Right Activists Comrade Lucy D. Yunana said the survivor told her she was raped twice.

A police source said the accused person was arrested and still in their custody, citing that there was pressure from various quarters to release him and drop the case so as not jeopardize the organizations reputation.
