Nigeria: INEC Declares Fayemi Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Nigeria has declared the candidate of the All Progressive Congress Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, winner of the Ekiti state governorship election held Saturday in the state.

Fayemi won the election with a total vote of 197,459 while the leading contender and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party Prof. Kolapo Olusola Eleka had 178,121 votes. The People For Democratic Change candidate came third with a total vote of 1,242.

INEC’s Chief Returning Officer for the Ekiti state governorship election, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka, who is also the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, said that John Olukayode Fayemi of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and got the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and returned elected.
