Nigeria: Gombe State House of Assembly Suspends 4 Members for Fleeing With Mace

The Gombe State House of Assembly in northeast Nigeria, on Thursday suspended four members elected under the APC for fleeing with the mace during plenary.

The Majority Leader and Chairman Committee on Information, Mr Fabulous Amos, stated this while briefing newsmen after an emergency plenary session.

He said four members of the house from the opposition APC, Abdullahi Abubakar Maiwanka (Akko-west), Walid Mohammed (Kwami-west), Mohammed A. Bello (Gombe-south) and Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim (Yamaltu-west) who played active role in the mace theft were suspended for four legislative sittings.

He expressed dismay over what he described as undemocratic behaviours by the members who he alleged brought their internal party crisis into the hallowed chamber.

Amos said the matter was referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate the suspended members’ action.
