President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the extension of tenure of office of the Controller-General, Nigeria Prisons Service by one year with effect from July 21, 2019.
The controller genaral , Ja’afaru Ahmed whose tenure is to end on July 21, was recommended for extension due to his track record of innovative reforms in the Prisons Service.
It is also to consolidate some of the on-going programs especially on human rights compliance, reformation and health care, agricultural and education programs for the inmates.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director Press & Public Relations Ministry of Interior, Mohammed Manga.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Georgina Ehuriah urged the controller genaral to ensure the consolidation of the on-going reforms in the Prisons Service in line with the policy thrust of President Muhammadu Buhari which is geared towards ushering the next-level of socio-economic development of Nigeria.
