The Borno State Ministry of Health in Northeast Nigeria has confirmed 1,068 cases of acute watery diarrhoea in 10 local government areas. The local government areas are Kukawa, Jere, Maiduguri Municipal, Konduga, Kaga, Magumeri, Askira, Biu, Bayo and Kwaya-Kusar.
The Commissioner of Health, Haruna Mshelia, confirmed this to newsmen in Maiduguri, clarifying, however, that no death was recorded. Mshelia also stated said that no cholera case had been reported from anywhere in the state.
The commissioner asked the people of the state to avoid actions that could cause water-borne diseases. He also advised anyone suffering from diarrhoea to go to the nearest hospital for immediate medication.
