This was contained in a statement signed by the council’s Secretary Muhammed Ibrahim for the state Chairman Bulama Talba.

The Borno State chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalist Bulama Talba said that this year’s theme is Journalism without Fear or Favour is a clear reminder to all agencies of government and the powers that be that journalism can never be silent and that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault.

In the words of Henry Anatole Grunwald who said journalism must speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of horror are still in the air.

Borno Council of the NUJ salutes the remarkable performance of all working journalists in the state and friends of the media for their support to the pen profession over the years.

Borno journalists at some point experienced arrests from some quarters which the NUJ believe was borne out of misunderstanding of the modus of operandi and in spite of which they assure to discharge their duties professionally for the good of all.

The Union salutes the resilient spirit of the government and people of Borno State in the collective fight against Covid-19 and insurgency and assure to support the cause with ethical practice.
