NUJ Chairman, Bulama Talba said journalists in Borno will step up monitoring government activities to address poverty in the state.
Talba stated this at the 14th Coordination situation room at Pinnacle Hotel in Maiduguri.
He said the economic situation in the country was biting harder, pushing more people into poverty line and the situation in Borno is worse with the insurgency running into its 11th year.
He added that there is need to ensure more transparency in the social investment programmes. He said journalists have the mandate not only to report, educate and entertain the people but to monitor the execution of programmes by the government.
