An explosive device killed one person and injured two others at a metal scrap site in Mubi town of Adamawa State in northeast Nigeria Sunday.
The explosion occurred after three scavengers had picked some metal objects which they took to scrap dealers.
A vigilante said one of the scavengers died instantly while the other two got injured and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The police spokesman in Adamawa State, Abubakar Othman, a superintendent of police, confirmed the death of a teenager in the blast, saying two other young men sustained injuries.
He said the blast occurred at a scrap market in Kabang area of Mubi South after the unsuspecting victims attempted to sell some metal objects they had collected.
Othman advised residents to go about their normal activities as the situation was under control, disputing rumours that the incident was a suicide attack.
