Kano State Government has set up a committee to interface with Coalition of labour unions in the state over a 14-day ultimatum to the state government to refund what they described as “illegal deduction from their May 2020 salaries.

Kano State Chairman of Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir announced the establishment of the committee on a Radio Programme, Monitored by Our Correspondent in Kano on Sunday.

Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir said the ultimatum was issued to the state government on Wednesday and on Friday, the state government had a meeting with the unions and the committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji.

Although labour had insisted that failure of the government to return the deduction before the end of its ultimatum, which begins on Wednesday, May 27, 2020, workers would embark on seven days warning strike from Monday, June 15.

The unions are demanding occupational safety incentives, hazard allowance and life insurance from the government for health workers who incidentally contracted the coronavirus disease while rendering service to patients.

The NLC also demanded immediate payment of April to November 2019 salary arrears to all categories of civil servants in the state according to the agreement government reached with Joint Negotiation Council in December 2019 on consequential adjustment.
