GM Urban Development Embarks On Long Week Assessment Of Areas Affected By Flood Within Maiduguri Metropolis

In his continues efforts engaging with flooded communities within the metropolis the General manager TPL Kaka Malum Umar has continue embarking on a long week of assessment visits to the already affected areas and places prone to flood disaster.

The General manager and his team of field managers visited 777 housing estate and the host community of Pompomari and Old airport where multiple structures were identified built on water ways and marked them all for demolition to avert possible occurrence of flood disaster.

He further stated the Borno state Urban planning and Development board will not allow a single person to do something in the detriment of others.

The General Manager also visited Dikwa Lowcost and Tsinimari layin Bola where he has interacted with some members and leadership of the two communities and taken round to see level of the flash floods bedeviling the people.

He said Borno state governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum assigned him and his team of specialist to assess the areas, reiterating that Governor Zulum will construct underground water ways in Tsinimari and Dikwa Lowcost linking it to Kwanan-Yobe main drainage system that has been already channelled to River Ngadda-Bull.

Emphasizing that Governor Zulum also want to employ the service of professionals of Nigerian institution of town planners, Borno state chapter, to chart a way forward in terms of having underground infrastructure that will drain the flooding water into Ngada Bull.

He appealed to the elders of Dikwa-Lowcost Community to be vigilant and do not allow anybody to build on waterways, bury Fibre-optic cable, pipeline of any kind among others as these requires prior approval of the board.

Dandal Kura Radio International reports that the General Manager has been embarking on an assessment visit to many communities which includes Bulumkutu, Dala, Abba Ganaram, 505 housing Estate, CBN Quarters, Damboa Road, among others.
