Ghanian President Nana Akufo Addo Elected As New ECOWAS Chairman

Economic Community of West African States at its 57th Summit in Niger Republic elected President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana as its new Chairman.

Ghana Ministry of Information announced through its Twitter handle that president Nana Akufo Addo has just been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States at the ongoing 57th ECOWAS Summitwhich held in Niamey capital of Niger.

President Muhammadu Buhari also warned ECOWAS leaders against elongating their tenure in office beyond constitutional limits.

He also said it is important that as leaders of our individual member-states of ECOWAS we need to adhere to the constitutional provisions of our countries particularly on term limits.

He added that this is one area that generates crisis and political tension in their sub-region which starts from socio-economic matters to security issues and the ECOWAS sub-region cannot afford another political crisis in the guise of tenure elongation.

He urge all of them to resist the temptation of seeking to perpetuate ourselves in power beyond the constitutional provisions.
