The Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC says it has activated ‘Help Areas’ along the 22 identified corridors of the nation’s highways to assist fatigued drivers as part of its activities for the festive period.
The Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, disclosed this when he featured on the programme, NAN Forum.
Oyeyemi, who noted that the corps had always had Help Areas which were part of the Rest Areas on the highways, said vehicles were already deployed at strategic locations.
He said they have partitioned the country into 22 corridors, that is the pattern and I’m happy NAN has identified this.
On measures taken by the corps to check excesses of some drivers on the highways, Oyeyemi said that the corps had deployed the use of breathalyser to test drivers for drunkenness.
He also thanked Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for renovating and equipping 13 out of the 26 roadside clinics.
