The Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital has ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to remand Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), till July 26,2021.

The order followed Kanu’s re-arraignment before Justice Binta Nyako on Tuesday morning, June 29, 2021, having been arrested by a collaborative effort between security agencies in Nigeria and the Interpol on Sunday.

Kanu is standing charges bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms, and management of an unlawful society.

Justice Nyako ordered that he be detained in DSS custody pending the determination of his suit on July 26.

According to Marshal Abubakar, a lawyer who witnessed the court proceeding, Kanu appeared in court hooded by the face and without any legal representation.

Abubakar Malami, the country’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice had earlier confirmed Kanu’s arrest at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, June 29, 2021.

Kanu was first arraigned by the Nigerian government over charges of terrorism, money laundering, and treason, on Oct. 14, 2015.

His bail on March 28, 2019, was revoked by Justice Nyako after he violated some of his bail conditions. He later fled to Israel.
