The European Union (EU), in collaboration with Yobe State Government, has taken the fight against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) to 178 communities.
Yobe’s EU Managing Conflict Team Leader, Abdulkadir Sambo, disclosed this, at the weekend, in Damaturu to mark the 16-day activism against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
He said justice system must be strengthened for the victims and their families in every community.
Responding, the District Head of Pompomari Ward, Alhaji Zanna Lawan, lamented that the increase in cases had become a great concern to both community leaders and parents.
In another development, for her commitment towards championing the fight against sexual and gender based violence, wife of Taraba State governor, Anna Ishaku, has been rewarded with the crown of Ambassador of GBV by Taraba State AIDS Control Agency (TACA).
The presentation of the award was said to have been geared towards recognising, rewarding and celebrating the governor’s wife, who according to the Director-General of TACA, Dr. Garba Danjuma, had been at the vanguard of addressing the ills being perpetrated against women and children in the state.
