The European Union has supported Multinational Joint Task Force with surveillance and fighting equipment to enhance counter-insurgency operations in Lake Chad region.
The NDjamena based MNJTF, comprises troops of Cameroon, Chad, Nigeria and Benin in fighting Boko Haram insurgence that claimed many lives and properties in the region.
Over a decade long insurgence, has claimed 36,000 lives with property worth $9.2 billion, about N3.42 trillion in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
According to the task force, the EU supported equipments includes command, control, communication and information system.
Chief of Military Public Information for MNJTF, Col. Muhammad Dole, in a statement on Tuesday in NDajmena, disclosed that command, control, communication and information system is to enhance troops operational efficiency against terrorism in the region.
He said training had been jointly organised by service providers and MNJTF for personnel that will operate the C3IS equipment across the military sectors.
While commending the EU, the Force Commander of MNJTF, Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Yusuf, said that C3IS equipment, is the most critical; to enhance operational performance of the troops in front lines.
He therefore; assured the European Union that all the support provided would be optimally utilized in accordance with the global best practices to enhance the operational efficiency of the troops.
