Borno to set-up additional testing centre for Covid-19

Borno State government says it would increase its testing capacity to contain community spread of the Coronavirus in the state. 

Secretary High powered response team for Covid-19 and Commissioner of Health Dr Salihu Kwayabura stated this during the daily media briefing in Maiduguri. 

Dr Kwayabura said the state is targeting to reach one thousand test per day with the setting up of additional testing centre at the Umoru Shehu hospital in Maiduguri. 

“The state is considering bringing on board a center in the University of Maiduguri, because it has come to the notice of the committee that there is part of the desired equipment in one of the departments specifically Microbiology and that can be put to use. So we are exploring all possible avenues to put that to use so that we can increase our testing capacity because that is the only way we will know how well we are doing”

The Secretary of the response team also confirmed that the state has recorded another three deaths bringing the number to six total number of death for COVID-19 with forty-one confirmed cases.

According to him, all three modalities are not related to the previous deaths.

Dr Salihu Kwayabura explained that the team is currently following up two hundred and thirty different individuals who had contact with confirmed cases.
