
Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA) has cautioned Residents of Maiduguri Metropolis and environs on release of excess water from Alau Dam.
The authority in a statement by the Managing Director, Mr Abba Garba on Tuesday in Maiduguri, advising those living along the shores of the river to take steps to avert danger to lives and property.
He stated that the Chad Basin Development Authority wishes to inform the general public that the gates of Alau Dam is going to be opened to release water to the downstream of River Ngadda.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that River Ngadda passes through populated areas of Maiduguri Metropolitan and Jere Local Government Areas.
Dandal Kura Radio International recalls that in 1994 when part of the dam collapsed due to excess water, several wards in Maiduguri were flooded, leading to destruction of many properties.
