The Chinese Consortium and Geophysical Construction Company CCGCC is set to complete the132-km Damaturu/Maiduguri dual carriage way in Borno.
The Kano/Maiduguri road was awarded in 2005 by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration to link various towns and communities in the Northeast.
The remaining 40-kilometre Jakana/Maiduguri road, could not be completed, as Boko Haram terrorists torched eight construction machines and bulldozers in April, 2018.
Last year the insurgents cashed in on the bad road to attack and kidnap motorists and commuters.
During the same period over two dozen people were killed with the kidnapping of 45 commuters along the same uncompleted road.
About three years later, CCGCC returned to the Jakana road project site in February. 2021.
An anonymous project site manager disclosed yesterday at the project site near Maiduguri that the remaining 40-km road to the state capital will be completed this year.
He urged the people to be patient, as the delay to complete the road was mainly caused by the over a decade insurgency that claimed many lives and property.
