Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe has called on the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) to sensitise its members on the need to open bank accounts.
Buni made the call in Damaturu on Sunday when the newly elected National President of MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Ngelzarma, paid him a courtesy visit.
He noted that failure to operate bank accounts is the major reason why commercial banks exist only in four of the 17 local government areas.
The governor also called on the President to ensure he sensitise members of the association on the cashless policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
The governor who noted that Ngelzarma’s election was based on merit, advised the President to work assiduously towards peaceful co-existence between farmers and herders.
In his remarks, Ngelzarma, a native of Yobe, thanked Buni for the pivotal role he played in his recent election.
The President pledged to instil discipline and morality among his members across the country.
He also promised to weed out “bad eggs” who were bringing the association to disrepute.
