BOSEPA, SEMA, Others Carry Out Joint Sanitation Exercise In Maiduguri

The General Manager of Borno State Environmental Protection Agency, BOSEPA, Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman, along with the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Engr Modu Abadam, have participated in the monthly sanitation exercise on Saturday.

The team visited different areas in Maiduguri and its environs to enforce the exercise and deemed the outing as encouraging while urging residents of Maiduguri city to continue to support and cooperate with the state government towards the provision of healthy , clean and conducive environment.

Engr. Madu Abadam reiterated that government will continue to support the residents of Maiduguri metropolis with all the necessary facilities to keep the city clean and habitable.

He stressed that priorities will be focused on the demolition and removal of illegal structures, especially those obstructing waterways, to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

During inspection of the sanitation exercise, the permanent secretary praised the sanitation vanguards and volunteers, who participated and assured that the government is planning to construct more dumping centers within the city.

The General Manager also called on shop owners and petty business men and women to comply with the law by closing their businesses for three hours (between 7am to 10:00am) during the monthly sanitation exercise.

He warned defaulters, particularly women petty traders that they may face legal consequences if caught disobeying the law.

Officials from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), and the General Manager of Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA) were among the participants in the exercise.

Some of the places monitored during the exercise include post office roundabout, Jiddari Polo, Ngomari Costin, Indimi Road, and circular road among others.
