Borno State Independent Electoral Commission Fixes 20th May For Local Government Polls

The Borno State Independent Electoral Commission BOSEIC has fixed 20th May, 2023 as date for the Local Government Councils’ Elections for the 27 local Government areas of the State.

The Executive Secretary BOSEIC, Alh. Lawan Maina Mahmud, said this while presenting the election time table at a meeting with Permanent commissioners, registered Political Parties and Stakeholders on Wednesday in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The Executive Chairman says that the time table has outlined all activities From submission and Collection of intent Forms, Screening of Candidates, training of election officials, beginning and ending of electioneering campaigns to the local government council elections.

He, however urged the need for cooperation and good working relationship between all the Registered Political Parties in the State. Emphasing, that it is of great importance that deep mutual understanding, trust and accord should exist among all.

He assured the commissions readiness to Conduct a free, fair and credible elections in the State.

The meeting was attended by Permanent Commissioner, Betara Aliyu, Director National Orientation Agency NOA, Shettima Iman Jafar, Representative of the 18 Registered Political Parties in the State, BOSEIC Officials amongst others.

It could be recalled that the Borno state Independent Electoral Commission has conducted a local government Council election on Dec. 2020 to Dec. 2022 for the first time in more than ten years.
