Borno State Government Will Establish State Road Maintenance Agency

Borno state government is to establish State Road Maintenance Agency to regulate traffic and ensure the safety and security of all residents of the state and plans to ban trucks and trailers from entering Maiduguri the state capital.

The Borno state commissioner for Transport, Hon. Abubakar Tijjani, while addressing inter-ministerial press Briefing to mark one year Anniversary of Governor Zulum held at the Multi-Purpose Hall of Government House, Maiduguri, on Friday.

Hon. Tijjani said to sanitize the transport sector, the ministry has commenced bio metric data capturing of all Keke NAPEP riders in the state for security and also to flush out criminal elements among them.

He said Borno state has also ordered the procurement of 500 Hyundai cars for the implementation of Governor Zulum’s taxi plan to ease township transport and ban tricycle from major roads.

While presenting the scorecard of his ministry, the Borno state commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Adamu Lawan said to improve revenue base of the state and reduce dependence on federal allocations, the state government has introduced State Single Treasure Account to block all leakages in revenue collection and remittance.

Also presenting the achievements of his ministry, the Borno state Commissioner for works, Arch. Yerima Saleh said during the period under review, the ministry has embarked on the construction of the first ever flyover in Northeast at Custom area to decongest heavy traffic in the area.

Arch Saleh said the ministry has also embarked on the construction of 2.8 kilometers Ummarari- Nganaram road, , Galtimari, Dusnan Gwangolang road and 1.7 township road in Benesheik Kaga local goverment as well Tashan Kano- Dala road among others.
