Borno State Commissioner for Sports and Youths Empowerment Sayinna Buba said that the Borno State Government has released over N54m for the empowerment of three thousand six hundred youths and persons living with disabilities in the state.
The Commissioners said this known while briefing newsmen in Maiduguri. He said that 2850 will be engaged as environmental and traffic vanguards while 778 disabled persons will be supported to start a business as part of effort to eliminate street begging in the state.
According to him to discourage thugery and idleness monthly stipend of N15,000 will be paid directly into their bank accounts and subsequently be engaged by ministries of Transportation and Environment.
Mr Buba however warned the leadership of the association of persons with disabilities to refrain from short-changing their members.
He also called on all the beneficiaries to please make sure that nobody collect one naira from them, Adding that Information reaching them that the executives of these unions are collecting one to two thousand naira in the name of union contributions.
The Commissioner promised to increase the monthly allowances as soon as the financial status of the state improves.
