The Borno state Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine alongside other government officials.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after his inoculation at the Government House Maiduguri, the Deputy Governor encouraged citizens of the state from 18 years and above to embrace the vaccine.
He said arrangements have been made to roll out the vaccination in IDP camps and Local Government areas to cover more people
Alhaji Umar Kadafur stressed the need for the people to continue to observe the non-pharmaceutical protocols to contain further spread of the virus.
They said prevention is better than cure, even after taking the vaccination, we should also maintain the social distance principles because is very important and at end of day we shall reach the promised land”. The Deputy Governor noted.
Chief of Staff to the Governor and overseeing Commissioner for Health, Professor Isa Marte said the vaccination would reduce COVID-19 related deaths and control community spread of the virus.
The first phase of the inoculation was launched on Thursday at Mohammed Shuwa Hospital where 20 frontline health workers were screened and vaccinated.
The United Nations during the event, promised to provide helicopter services for the deployment of the vaccines to the liberated Local Government Areas.
