Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Borno state chapter has celebrated world teacher’s day 2021 yesterday on the theme “Teachers at the heart of education”.
The occasion addressed the disruption and school closure caused by the Insurgency, Covid-19 and diversifying methods to maintain learning continuity of learners in the state.
The state Chairman of NUT, Comrade Jibrin Mohammed revealed that the annual celebration was inaugurated by United Nation Educational, Scientific and cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to recognize and appreciate teachers for their valuable role in the development of humanity and the society.
He continued by appreciating the great teachers of Borno state for their resourceful patriotism, courage and commitment to build and develop the education of the state, despite the challenges associated with the patriotic career of the teaching profession.
Mohammed on behalf of the Union appreciated the commitment of the Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for his commitment in restoring peace, Security and revamping the educational sector in the state.
He further called on the attention of the Borno state government to implement the additional years of service and age of retirement that is from 35-40 years and 60-65 years respectively, to ensure that trained and qualified persons are engaged in the proposed recruitment, payment of benefits and gratuity, annual increment, implementation of promotion among others.
