The Honourable Commissioner of Education in Borno State Lawan Abba
Wakilbe has promised to offer free education to GBV Survivors and
children born from rape in the state.
The Commissioner made this pledge during a joint advocacy visit to his
office by the members of Borno State chapter of GBV Network, Federation
of Muslim Women’s Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) and the Women’s Wing
of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) at Musa Usman Secretariat
Maiduguri, Borno state. Northeast Nigeria
Earlier in her address, the FOMWAN representative Hajiya Nanah Maina
lamented the dangers of GBV on the lives of women and girls and thanked
Borno State government for passing the violence against persons
prohibition bill into law.
She commended the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund and EU for
providing funding support towards ending violence against women and
girls in Borno State.
Speaking with our correspondent, the Project Coordinator with Grassroots
Researchers Association, Mr. Samuel Jonah said that the advocacy visit
is part of the project activities which aims at strengthening social
mobilization and accountability towards ending gender based violence and
violence against women and girls in MMC and Konduga local government
areas in Borno state.
