The Borno State Executive Council (SEC) has earmarked N9 billion at its last two sittings for roads and irrigation projects to boost agricultural activities in 2021 dry season farming.
. . While announcing the projects for execution Thursday in Maiduguri, the Commissioner of Information, Babakura Jato disclosed that the multi-million naira irrigation facilities and earth dams are being sited in the Bama/Dikwa axis.
According to him the roads project in Borno south senatorial district comprise 235-kilometre Damboa/Chibok and Maiduguri/Damboa/Biu roads.
The 85-kilometre Maiduguri/Damboa road is critical to the linking of communities in five councils of Damboa, Hawul, Shani, Kwaya Kusar and Biu.
He also said that commuters and motorists take 15 hours to reach their various destinations, instead of 2-3 hours.
He said added that the Ministry of Works and Borno State Roads Maintenance Agency (BORMA) are to collaborate with Nigerian Army to clear road side shrubs and provide security, while the Maiduguri/Damboa road is being rehabilitated.
He added that SEC, has released over N1 billion to complete the Damboa/Chibok road this year.
He noted that besides the insecure Maiduguri/Damboa road, it was built in 1980, without any major repairs during the over a decade long Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives.
According to him, over a dozen earth dams, are also to be build on community uplands that are not sited in the Lake Chad Basin and along rivers and streams.
