
Reports reaching us indicated that three soldiers were killed yesterday while exchanging gunfire with elements of ISWAP attempting to make an inroad into Borno state.
The report also said that over 20 ISWAP fighters were killed during the engagement with troops.
The attacks were reported by resident and security operatives in Kumshe and also behind the 777 housing estate in Maiduguri.
Security sources said the attack in Maiduguri would have been a disaster for the Maiduguri residents.
According to a resident living around the 777 housing estate, who spoke to Dandal Kura Radio on Sunday revealed that there were also heavy explosions and heavy exchange of gunshots behind 777 housing estates.
He said the incident started at about 10:15pm and lasted for several hours even as residents of Pompomari, 777 and 1000 housing estates also confirmed the heavy blasts and gunshots.
Residents said they could not sleep following the explosions and gunshots as families gathered to pray for God’s intervention.
A security source who shared a video with Newsmen said it was God that has been protecting Maiduguri.
The incident was coming hours after Nigerian soldiers at Banki Junction, Kumshe area of the state repelled a Boko Haram ambush where three soldiers and 20 terrorists were killed in the incident that occurred at about 07:45 p.m. on Friday.
The military authorities however did not comment on these attacks as an attempt to get the Army Spokesman, General Onyema Nwachukwu to comment. It did not yield result as at time of filing this story.
